About Us

Meet Jessie Cheng, Eating Disorder Recovery Coach and Founder of The Recovery Table.

Hey there, I’m Jessie Cheng!

As you scroll through my website, you may feel a range of emotions — excitement, curiosity, hesitation, or nervousness. Maybe it’s the first time you’re confronting your eating disorder and related issues, or maybe you have a loved one in mind. Whatever is on your mind and heart, I welcome you to bring your full self to the table.

I’ll share with you: when I first began my personal eating disorder recovery journey, I felt skeptical. Was there actually a life beyond calculating calories, overexercising, body checking, and engaging in eating disorder behaviors? It took years of hard and intentional work, but I’ve recovered since then and now dedicate myself to supporting others. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my own recovery coach who helped me see that recovery could lead to a life of authenticity, freedom, and joy.

That’s what motivates me to do my work — the belief that each of us is beautifully and wonderfully made, and that we are designed to live abundantly, free from the chains of an eating disorder.

So today, bring your full self to the table and take that step toward recovery, which is 100% possible.

No matter where you are in your journey, I’ll meet you there.

FAQs

  • "Being recovered is when the person can accept their natural body size and shape and no longer has a self-destructive or unnatural relationship with food or exercise. When you are recovered, food and weight take a proper perspective in your life and what you weigh is not more important than who you are. In fact, actual numbers are of little or no importance at all. When recovered, you will not compromise your health or betray your soul to look a certain way, wear a certain size, or reach a certain number on a scale. When you are recovered, you do not use eating disorder behaviors to deal with, distract from, or cope with other problems."

  • I work with individuals of all backgrounds who are navigating eating disorders and/or related issues. During our initial consultation, we’ll get to know each other and decide together if we’re a good fit. I am especially passionate about working with people of color and clients in the 12-35 age range. My goal is to provide a supportive, empowering space where you feel equipped to begin your healing journey.

  • Not at all! Coaching is for anyone — whether you’re dealing with disordered eating, exercise addiction, body image concerns, or simply want to cultivate a healthier relationship with food, exercise, and/or your body. It’s a powerful way to receive practical, personalized support as you work toward lasting change and recovery.

  • The frequency of our sessions depends on your individual needs, goals, and availability. I typically recommend meeting at least once a week for 60 minutes to start, but I'm flexible and can adjust the schedule as needed to ensure your recovery process feels supported and effective. Together, we'll find what works best for you.

  • As a recovery coach, I work alongside your treatment team, which may include a therapist, doctor, and/or registered dietitian (RD).

Therapists are trained to diagnose and treat mental health disorders, often helping you address underlying issues, trauma, emotions, and thought patterns that contribute to your mental health. They focus on deep emotional healing and long-term therapeutic progress.

As a coach, my focus is on the here and now. I provide practical guidance to help you address current behaviors, set goals, and create action plans. My role is to help you build the skills and mindset needed to stay on track with your recovery.

In addition to our sessions, I offer ongoing text and call support between sessions, as well as additional services that can help with day-to-day challenges — like having meal sessions, going grocery shopping, or managing other recovery-related tasks.

  • I require all clients to have at least a therapist or a registered dietitian on their treatment team to ensure you are medically stable and receiving appropriate care. In some cases, I may be able to make an exception, depending on your diagnosis, medical stability, and access to treatment in your area. Please feel free to reach out to me at jessie.cheng@therecoverytable.org to discuss your situation further.

Your well-being is my top priority, and I am committed to helping you receive the best support throughout your recovery.

At The Recovery Table, we won’t just ask, “How can I recover from?”

We’ll also explore, “What am I recovering to?”
